Step by step

  1. 1Enter your start date in one cell (e.g. A2) and end date in another (B2).
  2. 2In the output cell, type =NETWORKDAYS(A2,B2).
  3. 3Press Enter. The result includes both the start and end dates if they are weekdays.
  4. 4To exclude holidays, add a third argument: =NETWORKDAYS(A2,B2,D2:D5) where D2:D5 lists holiday dates.
  5. 5For a custom weekend (e.g. Friday–Saturday), use NETWORKDAYS.INTL: =NETWORKDAYS.INTL(A2,B2,"0000011").

Tips

Frequently asked

Does NETWORKDAYS count the start and end date?

Yes, both dates are included if they are weekdays. Subtract 1 if you want to exclude the start date.

How do I handle different weekend conventions (e.g. Friday–Saturday)?

Use NETWORKDAYS.INTL with a weekend string like "0000011" where 1s mark weekend days starting from Monday.
